Edmonds Mural Society mural 2013

'Sebastes Maliger- Quillback Rockfish' is one of three murals to be chosen for a downtown Edmonds wall this summer. This particular mural pays honor to the native species that was
suggested for the threatened species list, but hasn't quite made it yet. Although, thanks to retired Marine Biologist Sam Wright one species has made it onto the endangered list and two onto the threatened species list. To find more out about these beautiful fish check out the many sites available such as http://www.eopugetsound.org/science-review/7-rockfish or http://seattlepostglobe.org/2009/05/23/rockfish-puget-sounds-latest-endangered-species/or http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/news/press_releases/2013/rockfish-08-06-2013.html

Edmonds is so fortunate to have an underwater park just north of the Ferry landing! Even though not everyone is a diver we should investigate and celebrate the diverse species that swim just off our beaches. 'Sebastes Maliger attempts to do just this by bringing attention to the beauty and the fragile nature of our native resources.
